Georg Salden’s Polo is used across Allguth’s visual communication. Allguth is a Munich-based chain of gas stations in Germany. In this highly functional, transient environment, it lends a friendly and distinctive voice. Designed as a legible and versatile sans serif, Polo combines the clarity of a grotesque with the balance of a roman structure.
Polo was not originally conceived as a signage typeface in the strict sense. Yet its construction — open shapes, humanist proportions, and a certain liveliness — allows it to perform remarkably well in this context. It remains clear under functional demands while retaining its character — a typeface that doesn’t disappear, but holds its ground.
